Speaker: June 2nd, 2015- Manny Pacheco: Forgotten Hollywood

Manny Pacheco is currently a Southern California television and radio personality. His career has spanned over three decades. He co-hosted the Daytime Emmy-nominated In Studio on KCOP 13; and appeared on NBC’s Santa Barbara. He’s moderated public television pledge drives (KCET). Manny had a principal role in a documentary, Karaoke Fever, featured at the Los Angeles Film Festival in 2001. Pacheco received a Best Weblog accolade from the Los Angeles Press Club’s 54th Annual Southern California Journalism Awards.

Manny is also a voice-over commercial actor, and clients have included FORDGTEARCOMILLER LITE and HONDA. He has worked on KRLAKFI, and KBIG. He’s been a broadcaster in Los Angeles his entire career. He currently hosts FORGOTTEN HOLLYWOOD radio show on 15-10 Financial News & Talk on the Astor Broadcasting Group.

A Los Angeles-native, Manny received his undergraduate degree at UCLA in Bachelor of Arts, Political Science. He is happily married to Laurie, and they live in Cypress, CA.

   Forgotten Hollywood Forgotten History is the first paperback in a series of award-winning books. His latest work, Son of Forgotten Hollywood Forgotten History, was published in January, 2012.

 thanked members of the scholarship committee for their time and talents in organizing and awarding the Rotary & Riford Scholarships.Camille McKinnie thanked volunteers for last Friday’s Homeless Outreach event at Mariner’s Point. Rotarian volunteers served lunch and providing homeless citizens with personal healthcare items.Craig Schniepp was inducted as our newest club member.  He is sponsored by Don Dewhurst.

Volunteer Opportunities: Yes, you!

  • June 6, TJ Home-build #23! Help build a home for a deserving family.
  • June 3 & 4 volunteer to be a panelist for the Preuss School UCSD “Senior Exhibition” presentations. Volunteers serve as panelists listening to student presentations and then score them based on a rubric provided. Each exhibition will be 20 minutes long and will be presented to a three person panel composed of Preuss faculty, university representatives and community members.
    This is a fun event with an opportunity to learn about some of the great things Preuss students accomplish.  Four time slots are available each of the two days:
  • 8:55 am – 10:36 am
  • 10:41am-12:15pm
  • 12:47pm-2:21pm
  • 2:26pm-4:00pm
    You are welcome to participate during more than one of the time slots mentioned above.

If you have a suggested location, take a photo or send a note to RotaryLaJolla@gmail.com – previous treasure hunt locations can be found by exploring the Surf Beat archive beginning with the March 6, 2014 edition.Mr. Nobody had the correct answer to last week’s puzzle.  The usual suspects, Susan Stevens, John Hoss and Jane Wheeler responded with varying degrees of inaccuracy.  The bikers outfitted in natty UC Berkeley garb “Go Bears!” were pictured at the traffic light by National University across from the Torrey Pine Golf Course Driving Range on North Torrey Pines Road.
