Adam Day is a veteran public administration and public affairs executive with extensive experience managing the efficient delivery of municipal services, government relations, community outreach, coalition development, and multi-million dollar charitable and media campaigns.

 

Adam helps oversee the efficient management and operation of more than twelve tribal government departments including police, fire, medical/dental/pharmacy, education, IT and community development. Combined annual budgets exceed $55 million, with more than 400 employees. He reports to the elected Tribal Council and works closely with other senior executives in providing day-to-day business and policy guidance and long-term strategic counsel.

 

Adam also directs government, public and community relations on behalf of the Sycuan Tribe and their affiliated business entities, including annual multi-million dollar charitable giving, media outreach, and political contribution programs. He maintains positive and productive interaction with federal, state and local elected officials as well as corporate community leaders and conducts all media interviews on behalf of the Tribal Council.

 

Prior to joining Sycuan, Adam served as Vice President and General Manager for NCG Porter Novelli, San Diego’s largest public affairs firm. In that capacity Adam managed a number of campaigns for leading San Diego companies. Again and again, Adam’s work resulted in success, consistently earning him praise from clients and colleagues.

 

Prior to joining NCG PN, Adam served as senior public affairs counsel to industry leaders in the fields of high technology, Indian gaming and land development. A highlight of his work was on behalf of SAIC in its successful bid for the County of San Diego’s landmark information technology outsourcing project. The contract, valued at more than $640 million over seven years, was considered the largest municipal privatization in the history of the U.S. at the time.

 

Adam brings nearly twelve years of experience at the County of San Diego as chief of staff and deputy chief of staff to various members of the Board of Supervisors. He played a significant role in shaping public policy at the local, state and federal level on matters such as welfare reform, criminal justice, regional transportation planning and land use. Major accomplishments included adopting the County’s managed competition program, resulting in millions of dollars of savings to taxpayers; securing funds to construct a new jail and courthouse; and establishing the country’s largest open space preservation program, which received the support of the Sierra Club and the Building Industry Association.

 

Throughout his career, Adam has made community service a priority. He has served on dozens of boards and committees and currently sits on the Del Mar Fair Board appointed by both Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and Governor Jerry Brown (immediate past president), the San Diego County Planning County Planning Commission (immediate past chairman), Century Club of San Diego, Indian Gaming Local Benefit Committee, and the S.D. County Fire Mitigation Committee to name a few.

 

Adam is a graduate of San Diego State University with a Bachelors Degree in Political Science. He resides in Alpine with his wife and five children.

Mr. Dealy has over 37 years of real estate experience in the public and private development arena with over $4 billion of projects entitled, of which over $2 billion are completed. With hands-on experience in all aspects of real estate development, including being a licensed architect, general contractor, and fiduciary representative, Mr. Dealy brings a broad set of skills that have been crucial to his success in strategic planning, acquisitions and development over the years. Since founding Dealy Development, Inc. in 1992, Mr. Dealy has been primarily responsible for project pre-development master planning, entitlement phase, and overall project implementation and completion. Recently completed projects include the expansion of the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego, the development of The Grand Del Mar Resort, Clubhouse and Villas, the entitlements and pre-development for the Columbia Tower Hotel Downtown San Diego and the due diligence/leasehold acquisition for the Phase III San Diego Convention Center Expansion. In addition, he continues the pre-development of Manchester Pacific Gateway on San Diego’s downtown waterfront and the Chula Vista waterfront master plan including a hotel conference center, the Columbia Tower Hotel in downtown San Diego, the Grand Caribe Resort Hotel in Coronado and the Anaheim Resort Hotel.

 

Dealy Development, Inc. has held development contracts for the following major projects: San Diego Convention Center Phase II Expansion, San Diego International Airport Master Plan, Chula Vista Bayfront Master Plan, Rancho Bernardo Corporate Center, Centerside Office Complex in Mission Valley, Wells Fargo Plaza, the Sé Hotel in downtown San Diego, Century Centre Office Complex in Irvine, California, and the Qualcomm Stadium Expansion in Mission Valley.

 

Mr. Dealy is active in the community with membership in Lambda Alpha International, the Downtown San Diego Partnership Executive Committee, Urban Land Institute and ALIS. Mr. Dealy resides in Point Loma and is married with one son. He enjoys golf, hiking, travel, good friends & wine.

May 12th, 2015- Speaker – Jerry Sanders

Jerry Sanders began his lifelong career in public service when he joined the San Diego Police Department at the age of 22, fulfilling his dream of becoming a police officer. He ascended the police department ranks and became one of the youngest police chiefs in the city’s history.
In 1999, Sanders retired as Chief of Police and became CEO of the United Way of San Diego, where he reduced the organization’s costs and increased fundraising by 20 percent. Three years later, he chaired the board of the local chapter of the American Red Cross.
In 2005, with his reputation as a successful turn-around executive, civic leaders urged Sanders to run for mayor. Under Mayor Sanders, city financial staff completed six years’ worth of back-logged audits, allowing the city to return to the public bond markets in January 2009.

 

Sanders also won City Council approval for compensation cuts for employees that saved the city more than $34 million annually. Sanders also introduced Managed Competition to city government, which allows private companies to compete against city employees for the right to provide a variety of municipal services.
Sanders completed his second and final term as Mayor in December 2012, and now currently serves as the President and Chief Executive Officer of the San Diego Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Captain Cedrun was born in San Francisco, California and grew up in Los Angeles, graduating from Daniel Murphy High School in 1979. Enlisting in the United States Army after high school, he attended the United States Military Academy Preparatory School at Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey graduating in 1980. He then attended the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland and was commissioned an Ensign in 1984. He holds a Master of Science degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Naval Postgraduate School and a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. Additionally, he is qualified as a Joint Specialty Officer.

Captain Cedrun began his career in Surface Warfare aboard the carrier USS RANGER (CV 61), billeted as a Deck Division Officer and then Main Propulsion Division Officer. Subsequent sea assignments include Chief Engineer tours aboard USS SAGINAW (LST 1188) and USS BUTTE (AE 27); Damage Control Assistant aboard USS SAIPAN (LHA 2); Executive Officer aboard USS CLEVELAND (LPD 7); Chief Staff Officer for Commander, Amphibious Squadron SEVEN; and Executive Officer aboard USS BOXER (LHD 4). He commanded the dock landing ship USS ANCHORAGE (LSD 36), deploying to the Arabian Gulf in early 2003 as part of Amphibious Task Force WEST with elements of the FIRST Marine Expeditionary Brigade in support of Operations ENDURING and IRAQI FREEDOM. Captain Cedrun decommissioned ANCHORAGE in October 2003. From 2004 to 2006, he served as Executive Officer aboard USS PELELIU (LHA 5). In September 2008, he assumed command of USS BOXER (LHD 4). During CAPT Cedrun’s tour, BOXER served as the flagship for Commander, Task Force 151 and participated in the rescue of CAPT Richard Phillips from the M/V MAERSK ALABAMA in April 2009. He then served as the Chief of Staff for Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group THREE from January 2010 to March 2012. On 22 August 2010, CAPT Cedrun was temporarily reassigned as Commanding Officer, USS PELELIU (LHA 5). During his command tour, PELELIU participated in Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief operations for the flood victims in Pakistan and combat operations in Afghanistan in support of OEF. From April 2012 to until his retirement in June 2014, he served as the Assistant Chief of Staff (N45) for Commander, Naval Surface Forces, U.S. Pacific Fleet, heading up the Type Commander’s Material Inspection Team. During this time, CAPT Cedrun volunteered for an Individual Augmentation deployment to Bahrain and served as the Deputy Commander on the staff of Commander, Expeditionary Strike Group FIVE from March to October 2013.

In addition to the postgraduate education institutions, shore assignments include the staff of Commander, Logistics Squadron TWO as Operations Officer; Officer in Charge of Combat Logistics Group TWO Detachment Earle, New Jersey; and the Joint Forces Staff College Norfolk, Virginia as a student. Prior to assuming command of USS BOXER (LHD 4), he was assigned to the Office of the Secretary of Defense as Military Assistant for Naval Warfare Programs to the Director, Operational Test and Evaluation.

Captain Cedrun has been awarded the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit (four awards), the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (five awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (four awards), the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal and is authorized to wear numerous campaign and unit awards.
